Hip hop stars Nelly and Ashanti, who welcomed their first child together last year, are now expanding their family journey with a new docuseries.
According to Deadline, Peacock has ordered a series following the couple, which is currently in production. The project comes from Critical Content, the company behind Netflix’s Sly documentary and MTV’s Catfish.
The couple, who have been filming for several months, are both well-known for their music careers.
Nelly, born Cornell Haynes II, is famous for hits like Hot in Herre and Ride With Me, while Ashanti is known for songs like Foolish and Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).
The two dated from 2003 to 2013 before rekindling their relationship in 2023. In April 2024, Ashanti announced her pregnancy, and the couple’s child was born in July. They also quietly married in Missouri in December 2023.
Both stars have experience in unscripted television. Nelly previously starred in Nellyville, which aired on BET for two seasons in 2014 and 2015, and appeared in the mockumentary Real Husbands of Hollywood. His acting credits also include The Longest Yard, CSI: New York, and Dancing with the Stars. Ashanti has appeared in several movies and TV shows, including Army Wives and Love & Listings.
Nelly and Ashanti will serve as executive producers for the series alongside Jenny Daly and Oji Singletary from Critical Content Studios.
This project is part of Critical Content’s global expansion over the past year, which includes deals with companies like Germany’s Leonine and a stronger focus on premium entertainment formats.
