Over 2,000 cases of chicken broth sold at Walmart have been recalled due to potential packaging issues, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Specifically, 2,023 cases of Great Value Chicken Broth, sold in 48-ounce containers, have been pulled from shelves. With six cartons per case, a total of 12,138 cartons are affected.
The recall, initiated on December 11, 2024, was prompted by concerns over packaging failures that could compromise product sterility, potentially leading to spoilage. The impacted broth has a “Best if Used by” date of March 24, 2026, with Lot Code 98F09234 c. The Retail Unit UPC is 007874206684 d, and the Case UPC is 078742066844.
The recalled product was distributed in Walmart stores across nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas, affecting more than 242 locations. Walmart has advised customers to discard the product and request a refund.
In a statement, Walmart emphasized customer safety, saying, “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted product from the affected stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate.”
This recall follows two others involving Walmart products in recent weeks. On December 12, 1,350 pounds of Blue Ridge Beef’s 2lb Kitten Mix logs were recalled due to salmonella contamination, which was detected after a customer reported an animal illness. Testing by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources confirmed the contamination.
Additionally, Braga Fresh’s ready-to-eat 12oz Marketside Broccoli Florets were recalled last month across 20 states due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The issue was identified through random testing by Texas Health & Human Services, which found a positive sample.
