Carrie Underwood is set to perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20. The news was confirmed on Monday by a spokesperson for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, who announced that the Grammy-winning country star would deliver a rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
According to a photo of the program shared on X, Underwood will be joined by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
The “Before He Cheats” singer and “American Idol” alum expressed her gratitude in a statement:
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and look toward the future.”
Following Underwood’s performance, Vice President-elect JD Vance will take the Oath of Office, leading to the evening’s main event: Donald Trump’s Presidential Oath of Office.
Underwood has largely kept her political views private, though in 2017, she and Brad Paisley humorously addressed Trump’s Twitter habits during a CMA Awards parody of her hit song, “Before He Cheats,” reimagined as “Before He Tweets.”
Despite the moment of levity, Underwood later shared her desire to remain apolitical, telling The Guardian in 2019: “I feel like people try to pin me down politically. I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everything is summed up in black and white, but it’s not like that.”
The program also lists Christopher Macchio, a classical-crossover singer, as a performer of the National Anthem, with additional artists for the event yet to be announced.
