Special Counsel David Weiss defended his handling of the Hunter Biden investigation in a final report summarizing his years-long probe into the president’s son.
Weiss criticized President Biden’s decision to pardon Hunter Biden, who was facing tax and gun charges in two states.
“I prosecuted these cases because Mr. Biden broke the law. A unanimous jury convicted him on gun charges, and he admitted guilt in tax offenses. I followed the Principles of Federal Prosecution and determined prosecution was warranted, as I have done for two decades,” Weiss stated in the 280-page report.
Weiss also criticized the president’s description of the cases as “selective,” “unfair,” and politically motivated, calling such remarks an unjust attack on the Justice Department.
“While other presidents have pardoned family members, none have used the opportunity to disparage public servants with unfounded accusations,” Weiss wrote.
He emphasized that his decisions were guided solely by the facts and the law. “I never considered political implications or opinions when making prosecutorial decisions. Such factors are irrelevant to the pursuit of justice,” he concluded.
