The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has been nominated as Thisday Newspaper and Arise Television’s Minister of the Year 2024.
In a letter dated January 14, 2024, signed by Mr. Eniola Bello, Managing Director of the Thisday Arise Group, Wike was selected from “hundreds of candidates chosen by millions of readers of THISDAY Newspaper and viewers of the ARISE NEWS Channel.”
The award ceremony is scheduled for January 27, 2025, at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The letter stated: “Congratulations on your nomination as Minister of the Year! This recognition is a testament to your service to Nigeria, the people of Africa, and the world.
“THISDAY Awards celebrate excellence in governance, public policy, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Your contributions have distinguished you as deserving of this honor. Emerging from hundreds of candidates chosen by millions of readers and viewers, you have demonstrated resilience and strength during these challenging times.”
Since assuming office as FCT Minister, Wike has overseen significant improvements in infrastructure across Abuja’s city center and satellite towns.
Additionally, land administration processes have seen remarkable progress, with land allottees now able to receive their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) within two weeks of payment. Notably, Wike has signed 5,841 C-of-Os, nearly matching the 8,400 issued between 2010 and 2023, leaving less than 3,000 to surpass the total from the previous eight years.
