President-elect Donald Trump outlined his plans for his first week in office, emphasizing a “record-setting” number of executive actions. Among his priorities are mass deportations, a visit to Los Angeles to assess wildfire damage, and addressing the TikTok ban.
In a Saturday phone interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, Trump discussed his inauguration, which was moved indoors to the U.S. Capitol due to extreme cold. Supporters will be able to watch the ceremony at Capitol One Arena, followed by an indoor parade. Trump described the theme of his speech as “unity, strength, and fairness,” emphasizing the need to treat people fairly.
Trump reiterated that deporting undocumented immigrants, especially those with criminal records, would be a top priority, though he withheld specifics on timing and locations.
On executive actions, Trump hinted at signing a historically high number of orders immediately after his inauguration speech.
Regarding TikTok, Trump said he is considering granting a 90-day extension for its China-based parent company, ByteDance, to divest. The Supreme Court recently upheld a bipartisan law banning the app unless it is sold to a non-Chinese entity.
Trump also announced plans to visit Los Angeles to address wildfire damage and discuss water management issues. While he has yet to speak with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Trump said his visit will happen later in the week.
On the Middle East, Trump expressed cautious optimism about a ceasefire and hostage-release agreement approved by Israel. He pledged to ensure the deal holds through strong leadership and respect, underscoring his administration’s commitment to restoring U.S. global standing.
