On December 13, Frito-Lay recalled over 6,000 bags of 13 oz. Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to “undeclared milk,” with the affected bags sold in Oregon and Washington.
On January 27, the FDA elevated the recall to a Class 1 status, which indicates a “reasonable probability” that the product could cause serious health issues or even death. The FDA uses Class I, II, or III labels to categorize the severity of a recall.
Frito-Lay clarified that this was not a new recall, but a follow-up on the December recall, which was carried out in full cooperation with the FDA.
The recall applied only to these two states, and all affected products have been removed from shelves.
The recalled bags have a “guaranteed fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and specific manufacturing codes (6462307xx or 6463307xx). No other Lay’s products are involved, and as of January 29, no allergic reactions have been reported.
