A petition demanding the impeachment of President Donald Trump has gained over 100,000 signatures just days into his second term, reflecting deep political divisions in the country.
The petition, launched by the nonprofit Free Speech for People on the day Trump returned to office, calls for Congress to investigate alleged violations of the Emoluments Clauses, corrupt campaign practices, and his pardoning of January 6 rioters.

The campaign recently expanded its impeachment arguments, citing Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship for certain children, his firing of key officials, and alleged abuses of power to target opponents. Free Speech for People argues that Trump’s continued actions warrant immediate congressional action.
Campaign director Alexandra Flores-Quilty emphasized public demand for accountability, urging Congress to take bold action. Co-founder John Bonifaz stated that Trump’s unconstitutional behavior is rapidly accumulating.
Meanwhile, most Republicans have defended Trump’s actions, though some opposed his pardoning of January 6 offenders. With the GOP controlling both chambers of Congress, another impeachment attempt is uncertain until after the 2026 midterms, when Democrats could regain control of the House.
