Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has barred individuals pardoned by former President Donald Trump for their involvement in the Capitol riot from being hired for state government jobs.
According to reports, a directive obtained by Pritzker instructed the state’s hiring agency to exclude these individuals, citing their participation in “infamous and disgraceful conduct” that contradicts the values and mission of Illinois. He emphasized that those who attacked law enforcement, disrupted the transfer of power, and sought to undermine democracy should not hold government positions.
Pritzker has consistently opposed Trump’s policies. Following Trump’s election in November, he vowed to defend Illinois residents, declaring in an X post that anyone threatening their freedoms would have to go through him.
While he supports deporting violent criminals, Pritzker has also made it clear that Illinois will not assist federal authorities in detaining law-abiding undocumented immigrants, in accordance with state law.
