In 2018, Kanye West publicly shared that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, even referring to it as his “superpower” on his album Ye.
In 2020, amid a series of public controversies, his then-wife Kim Kardashian acknowledged his diagnosis and urged people to show compassion regarding his behavior.
Recently, during an interview on Justin LaBoy’s The Download podcast, Kanye claimed that his bipolar diagnosis was incorrect, stating that he was actually autistic. He credited his current partner, Bianca Censori, for encouraging him to seek a second opinion, saying, “She told me, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like bipolar.’”
Kanye suggested that his public outbursts stem from a lack of control over his life, adding that people around him struggle to manage his behavior. He also revealed that since receiving his new diagnosis, he has stopped taking medication, believing it interfered with his creativity.
As with many of Kanye’s past statements, his latest claims have sparked discussion, and only time will tell the impact they may have.
