Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has instructed all workers in the state civil service to return to their offices and resume the usual Monday to Friday work schedule.
This follows the flexible working arrangement introduced in February 2024, which allowed certain staff, particularly junior workers, to only come to the office two days a week and work remotely for the remaining days. Senior staff were required to report to the office every day.
The adjustment was made in response to the economic difficulties caused by the federal government’s removal of the petrol subsidy.
On February 11, a circular from the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, confirmed the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative. The reversal was tied to the implementation of the new minimum wage for state employees.
The circular stated: “In line with the implementation of the New Minimum Wage and other measures to improve public servants’ welfare, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative. This will take effect from March 31, 2025.”
The circular also urged public servants to refocus on their duties to ensure improved service delivery in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
