An Alabama woman who accused rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her when she was 13 has withdrawn her civil lawsuit, according to court filings on Friday. She had added Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, to an existing lawsuit against Combs, alleging that she was assaulted in 2000 after being offered a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party by Combs’ limo driver.
Jay-Z strongly denied the allegations and sought to be removed from the lawsuit, calling the woman’s decision to drop the case “a victory” and labeling the claims “frivolous and fictitious.” He stated that the lawsuit had no merit and was never going to succeed.
Meanwhile, Combs remains in jail in New York, facing federal sex trafficking charges and multiple sexual assault lawsuits. His legal team argued that the withdrawal of this lawsuit, without a settlement, proves that the other cases against him are also baseless. They maintained that Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone.
Jay-Z and Combs, both major figures in the hip-hop industry, gained prominence in the 2000s as entrepreneurs and two of the wealthiest rappers. Over the years, they have collaborated on music and were frequently seen together at industry events.
