Thousands of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., and across the U.S. on Monday to oppose President Trump’s policies, particularly his administration’s plans for deep budget cuts to government agencies and efforts to deport undocumented immigrants.
The demonstrations, organized by the 50501 Movement, aimed to stage protests in all 50 states and also featured signs criticizing Elon Musk as a symbol of corporate influence. Organizers described the rallies as a stand against what they called the Trump administration’s “anti-democratic and illegal actions” and its alliance with the wealthy elite. Despite freezing temperatures caused by a polar vortex, many protesters turned out in affected cities.
In response, White House spokesperson Harrison Fields defended the administration, emphasizing that Trump’s electoral victory represented a mandate from the American people. He highlighted Trump’s swift policy actions, which he said were focused on economic growth, national security, and reestablishing the country’s global influence. Fields reiterated that Trump is committed to governing for all Americans and prioritizing national interests in his decisions.
