The U.S. government has officially released its 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) list, once again excluding Nigeria and other African nations, reinforcing the Trump administration’s stringent immigration policies.

While 40 countries, including those in Europe, Asia, and select Middle Eastern regions, secured visa-free entry, no African nation was included. Even key U.S. allies like the United Kingdom were omitted, though British citizens still qualify under specific conditions.

This decision follows a surge in deportations under Trump’s leadership, with thousands of undocumented Nigerians, Ghanaians, and other African migrants forcibly removed in recent months. During Trump’s previous term, visa restrictions on Nigerians were tightened due to concerns over visa overstays and security threats.

With Trump back in office, his administration is once again emphasizing strict border control, large-scale deportations, and limited entry for African and Latin American nations.

Despite Nigeria’s continued exclusion, the U.S. State Department has added Romania to the 2025 VWP, reflecting a shift toward countries with stronger diplomatic ties and enhanced border security.

The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs states that the VWP allows citizens of participating nations to visit the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they obtain prior approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).

For Nigerians, this latest development further limits access to the U.S. under Trump’s administration, following previous visa bans and additional travel restrictions. Over the years, Nigeria has experienced rising visa rejection rates due to concerns over immigration violations, fraud, and security risks.
