The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has instructed MultiChoice Nigeria, the operator of DStv and GOtv, to postpone its planned subscription price increase until an ongoing investigation into the company’s proposed tariff adjustments is concluded.
This directive, announced in a statement by the FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, highlights the need to safeguard consumers from potential exploitation during the review process. The order comes after MultiChoice requested an extension for its scheduled appearance before the regulator amid growing concerns about its frequent price hikes.
Initially, the FCCPC had summoned MultiChoice’s CEO for an investigative hearing on February 27, but after the company’s request, the hearing was rescheduled for March 6, 2025. The CEO and relevant officers have been instructed to attend and provide a detailed response. The statement added that MultiChoice is required to keep the current pricing structure in place until the FCCPC completes its review and issues a final decision.
