The Israeli military re-entered the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, as confirmed by the spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
This move followed the breaking of a two-month ceasefire, which had been shattered by a large-scale bombing campaign that resulted in hundreds of casualties across Gaza.
The new ground operation has been concentrated in the central and southern parts of the region, and the IDF has regained control of about half of the “Netzarim Corridor,” a key Israeli-built road dividing Gaza.
Hamas condemned the incursion, calling it a violation of the ceasefire agreement. Meanwhile, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning that the military would escalate actions, including evacuating civilians from combat zones and further intensifying their attacks on Hamas. Katz emphasized that if Israeli hostages are not released and Hamas remains in Gaza, Israel would act with unprecedented force.
The operation marks the collapse of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that had reduced fighting for two months, although violence had not completely ceased, with health officials reporting ongoing casualties.
The reactivation of Israeli ground forces came alongside significant airstrikes, and tensions remain high as the conflict continues to evolve.
