President Trump cautioned on Tuesday that Americans “could be” drawn into the Russia-Ukraine conflict if it escalates into “World War III.” In an interview with Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle, Trump stated, “We want to get it over with,” referring to the war. The interview took place just hours after Trump’s lengthy phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who rejected Trump’s proposal for an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine but agreed to halt attacks on “energy and infrastructure.”
Trump remarked that a ceasefire alone wouldn’t be sufficient due to the tense situation, pointing out Russia’s military advantage, particularly in encircling Ukrainian soldiers. He emphasized that his efforts for a broader ceasefire are aimed at preventing U.S. involvement in a larger conflict. “Look, we’re doing this – there are no Americans involved. There could be if you end up in World War III over this, which is so ridiculous. But, you know, strange things happen,” Trump said.
The president called his discussion with Putin “great,” revealing that it lasted almost two hours and focused on peace efforts.
