The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is investigating the cause and circumstances of Jessica Aber’s death, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia set to determine the official cause. According to an APD statement, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive woman at around 9:18 a.m. on the 900 block of Beverley Drive, where Aber’s body was discovered.
Aber began her career with the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) in 2009 as an assistant U.S. attorney. She later served as counsel to the assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division from 2015 to 2016, before becoming deputy chief of EDVA’s criminal division. In 2021, former President Joe Biden nominated her for U.S. attorney, and she was unanimously confirmed by the Senate. She stepped down in January following President Donald Trump’s return to office.
Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed condolences, calling Aber’s passing a “deeply tragic loss” and offering sympathies to her loved ones. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also honored Aber’s legacy in a post on X, highlighting her contributions as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and her impactful work with Ceasefire Virginia, which he said saved countless lives.
