Donald Trump has criticized an artist for creating what he calls an “unflattering” portrait of him, which hangs in the Colorado State Capitol. He has demanded that Democratic Governor Jared Polis remove the artwork, claiming it was intentionally distorted.
Posting on TruthSocial, Trump argued that “no one likes a bad picture of themselves” and accused the artist, Sarah Boardman, of losing her talent, pointing out that her portrait of Barack Obama was far more flattering. He claimed many Colorado residents have complained about the painting and insisted he was speaking on their behalf in calling for its removal.
The portrait, originally unveiled in 2019 during Trump’s presidency, has been displayed alongside those of other U.S. presidents. It remains unclear why Trump chose to address the issue now.
Governor Polis, who has previously been criticized for working too closely with Trump on certain policies, recently drew attention for speaking out on the detention of an undocumented immigrant in Colorado. Trump’s criticism of Polis also extended to his handling of crime, particularly concerning the Tren de Aragua gang.
Trump’s remarks come as he continues to push hardline immigration policies, including invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport suspected gang members, marking only the fourth time in history that the law has been used.
