The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that it will seize any articulated vehicle found transporting animals alongside passengers in the state.
Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the state FRSC Sector Commander, revealed this on Wednesday, March 26, after meeting with members of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure. He emphasized that the FRSC was working to address issues related to articulated vehicles to improve road safety.
Dr. Ibitoye explained that ongoing efforts include raising awareness among enforcement agents about the dangers of mixed loading, which involves combining humans, goods, and animals in one vehicle. He warned that any vehicle caught in such an offense would be impounded. “We are collaborating with stakeholders to ensure drivers are cautioned and stop this practice,” he stated. “When accidents happen, it’s not just the driver and their assistant involved—often, there are more than 10 people in the vehicle along with animals.”
The FRSC is committed to both advocacy and enforcement, and offenders will face penalties, including having their vehicles impounded.
