President Donald Trump maintained that he would “absolutely” pursue the acquisition of Greenland, stating, “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%,” in an NBC News interview on Saturday. Despite the possibility of using military force, Trump suggested that a non-military approach might be possible. “I never take military force off the table,” he clarified, adding that there is a “good possibility” it could be achieved without such force. Trump’s comments follow a visit by Vice President JD Vance to Greenland, where he criticized Denmark for inadequate security in the territory and encouraged Greenland to consider breaking away from Denmark for potential U.S. discussions on acquisition. However, Vance also emphasized that the U.S. doesn’t believe military force would be necessary.

Greenland’s government, as well as Denmark, rebuffed the U.S.’s actions, with Denmark’s foreign minister calling the rhetoric inappropriate for allies. Greenland’s residents, meanwhile, have voiced opposition to becoming part of the U.S. Despite this, Trump reiterated that securing Greenland was crucial for global security. “We need Greenland, very importantly, for international security. We have to have Greenland,” he stated.

In addition, Trump expressed confidence in his national security team following the disclosure of a leaked conversation, and defended his tariff policies on foreign cars, saying higher prices would drive Americans to purchase domestically made vehicles.
