President Donald Trump expressed his approval of his ex-daughter-in-law Vanessa Trump’s relationship with Tiger Woods, saying, “I’m very happy for both.” Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on March 31, Trump, 78, was asked about Woods, 49, joining the family after he and Vanessa, 47, confirmed their relationship on Instagram on March 23.
“I love Tiger and I love Vanessa,” Trump said in a clip shared by the White House, revealing that Woods had called him a few months ago. “He and I have a very special, very good relationship. I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete,” Trump continued. He recalled Woods informing him about the relationship, to which he responded, “Tiger, that’s good, that’s good.” He added, “Just let them both be happy. They’re both great.”
Vanessa was previously married to Donald Trump Jr. for 12 years before their divorce in 2018, and they share five children. Reflecting on their past relationship, Trump noted, “Vanessa and Don had a very good relationship. They have five incredible children, all good athletes, all great students. Their breakup was sad to me because I think they’re both great.”
Woods had announced their relationship on Instagram last month, sharing affectionate photos and writing, “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side!” He also requested privacy for their loved ones.
According to sources, the couple had been dating for several months, with sources noting that Donald Trump Jr. is supportive of their relationship.
Their children share a passion for golf, with Vanessa and Don Jr.’s daughter Kai, 17, and Woods’ son Charlie, 16, having competed in junior tournaments together. Woods also shares daughter Sam, 17, with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren, while Vanessa and Don Jr. are parents to Donald III, 16, Tristan, 13, Spencer, 12, and Chloe, 10.
