Reports indicate that Amazon has submitted a last-minute bid to acquire TikTok.
The social media platform is once again facing the threat of a U.S. ban unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sells it to an American buyer by April 5, 2025.
While the law mandating the sale was passed earlier, enforcement was delayed due to an agreement with former President Trump, allowing TikTok to continue operating in the U.S. Originally, the deadline for the ban was set for January 19 but was later extended.
ByteDance is now racing against time, and although multiple acquisition offers have been made, none have been compelling enough to satisfy U.S. lawmakers.
Amazon has now joined the list of potential buyers, formally placing a bid to acquire TikTok, according to three sources familiar with the matter. The value of Amazon’s offer remains undisclosed, and ByteDance reportedly hasn’t taken the proposal seriously yet.
Trump has stated that a deal could be finalized before the deadline, and hinted that an extension might be possible if necessary. With mounting pressure, TikTok’s future in the U.S. is likely to be determined in the coming weeks.
