Prince Andrew’s connection to alleged Chinese spy Yang Tengbo has resurfaced in the news following a rare statement from Buckingham Palace about King Charles’ involvement.
The Duke of York, who previously worked with Tengbo as a business advisor, was already sidelined during Christmas due to the fallout from their relationship.
However, on April 4, King Charles was linked to the scandal after new documents revealed he had secretly met with Andrew to discuss potential business deals. Tengbo, who was initially known as “H6” in official papers, lost a 2024 appeal against a decision to remove him from the UK.
A judge had stated that Tengbo posed a national security risk and had gained an unusual degree of trust from a senior royal, who had been involved in business activities with him.
According to the reports, the documents made public on Friday included a statement from Andrew’s former senior advisor, Dominic Hampshire. He claimed that he had met with Andrew and King Charles twice in the previous six months to discuss Andrew’s future business plans. The discussions reportedly focused on the “Eurasia Fund,” which Tengbo described as a way to transform Andrew’s Pitch@Palace initiative into a business fund. Following Andrew’s controversial 2019 BBC interview about Jeffrey Epstein, he had stepped down from Pitch@Palace, which aimed to support UK entrepreneurs.
Hampshire’s statement revealed that precautions were taken to avoid media attention during these meetings at Windsor Castle.
In response, Buckingham Palace issued a statement clarifying that while the King had met with Andrew and his advisor to hear business proposals, Tengbo’s name was not mentioned at any time during these discussions. A source had previously said that King Charles’ patience with Andrew was running thin, suggesting that the monarch had reached his limit after standing by his son for many years.
