Donald Trump claimed that foreign leaders are scrambling to negotiate with him following his recent imposition of tariffs on multiple countries.
Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner on Tuesday, he boasted, “These countries are calling us up, kissing my ass. They’re desperate to make a deal. ‘Please, sir, I’ll do anything.’”
Trump also took a jab at Republican lawmakers who oppose his tariff strategy, insisting he’s the superior dealmaker. “Then I hear some rogue Republican saying Congress should handle negotiations,” he said. “Trust me—you don’t negotiate like I negotiate.”
Meanwhile, global reactions to Trump’s tariffs are intensifying. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced he’s dispatching a delegation to the U.S. to discuss the new 29% duties on Pakistani imports. China, escalating its response, declared it will hike its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods to 84% from 34%, effective Thursday.
