President Donald Trump released a Palm Sunday message marking the start of Holy Week, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting Christian values across the country.
In the statement, Trump pledged to defend religious liberty in public institutions including schools, the military, and the government.
“As we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice, we draw inspiration from His love, humility, and obedience during life’s most trying moments,” Trump said. He added a prayer for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the nation and expressed hope that America remains a symbol of faith, freedom, and hope to the world.
Trump and First Lady Melania expressed solidarity with Christians observing the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, “the living Son of God who conquered death and opened the gates of Heaven.” His message also walked through the key milestones of Holy Week—from Palm Sunday to Easter Vigil—emphasizing the redemptive power of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection.
Since surviving an assassination attempt in July 2024, Trump has more openly referenced his faith, often declaring he was “saved by God to Make America Great Again.” The White House recently replaced a portrait of Barack Obama with a painting of Trump during that event, underlining its significance.
The Palm Sunday message kicks off a week of faith-focused events planned by the newly established White House Faith Office. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said these efforts show Trump’s deep support for Christian Americans, in contrast to the Biden administration’s decision to observe Easter 2024 as Transgender Day of Visibility.
According to faith director Jennifer Korn, the White House is preparing “extraordinary” Holy Week celebrations. Events include a special Holy Week video, an Easter dinner, and a worship service at the White House led by prominent pastors including Paula White, Franklin Graham, and Greg Laurie.
