Super Bowl LIX made headlines for many reasons, with the halftime show being one of the biggest talking points.
Leading up to the announcement, Lil Wayne openly expressed his strong desire to perform—especially since the event was in his hometown of New Orleans. He believed he had earned the spot more than anyone else. But after Kendrick Lamar was chosen, Wayne has now said he’s done entertaining the idea of ever doing a Super Bowl halftime show.
In a Rolling Stone interview, he compared his situation to being an overlooked star athlete, saying he’s still putting up big numbers and is content being recognized as one of the best in the game.
On the day of the show, he didn’t watch Kendrick’s set—instead, he played pool with Lil Twist and smoked outside, saying there was nothing about the performance that drew him in.
Wayne admitted that moment stole the excitement and dream from him, and he no longer has any desire to do the halftime show, even though it once meant a lot.
Back in November 2024, he had shared how deeply personal the opportunity felt, especially wanting to perform in front of his mother. Ultimately, he feels that chance was “ripped away.” Meanwhile, Kendrick’s halftime performance received widespread praise, featuring hit songs, surprise celebrity appearances, and even a Drake reference.
