Senator Chris Van Hollen confirmed on Thursday evening that he met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man the Trump administration admitted was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March. “The primary purpose of my trip was to meet with Kilmar, and tonight I was able to do that,” Van Hollen shared in a post on X. “I spoke with his wife, Jennifer, to convey his love, and I’ll be sharing a full update once I return.”
Van Hollen arrived in El Salvador on Wednesday to advocate for Abrego Garcia’s release. Photos of the meeting were first shared by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, who has rejected requests to send Abrego Garcia back to the United States.
