Nobody delivers a diss track quite like Kendrick Lamar. On Saturday, April 19, the rapper launched the Grand National Tour with SZA at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, where the two alternated solo sets before joining forces on fan favorites like “Doves in the Wind,” “All the Stars,” and “LOVE.” They closed out the night with a performance of “Luther.”
During one of Kendrick’s solo segments, he took a pointed jab at Drake by mocking the rapper’s “drop drop” ad lib from the track “Family Matters.” Before launching into his own diss track “Not Like Us,” Kendrick played a skit styled as a deposition. In the clip, dressed in all black, he’s questioned by a fictional attorney: “Sunday, February 9th…” Kendrick responds, “I don’t keep up with dates.” The attorney follows up with: “Okay, does this ring a bell? Drop. Drop. Drop. Drop…” The screen cuts to black and “Not Like Us” blasts through the stadium as the crowd erupts.
The viral moment, shared by DJ Akademiks, is the latest escalation in Kendrick and Drake’s long-running feud, which dates back to 2013. In 2024, the tension peaked with the release of multiple diss tracks including “Euphoria,” “Family Matters,” “Push Ups,” and “Not Like Us.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Drake has filed an updated defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group for promoting Kendrick’s “Not Like Us,” claiming it has led audiences to falsely believe he committed pedophilia. The suit points to Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance and Grammy wins as moments that amplified the track’s reach, especially during the most-watched halftime show in history.
