President Vladimir Putin has ordered the deployment of several Russian planes to assist with the aftermath of a deadly explosion at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, according to Russia’s emergency ministry on Sunday. The Kremlin stated that Putin expressed condolences for the loss of life and offered support to Iran in managing the situation. He extended his sympathy to the victims’ families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured. The emergency ministry confirmed that a Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft, which specializes in firefighting, along with an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane, would be sent to provide aid.
Iranian state media reported that the blast, likely caused by the detonation of chemical materials, resulted in at least 25 deaths and over 700 injuries on Saturday at Bandar Abbas, Iran’s largest port.
