In a bold response to President Donald Trump’s escalating trade war, China’s Foreign Ministry released a dramatic video on social media urging the global community to resist what it called the bullying tactics of the U.S. leadership. “Bowing to a bully is like drinking poison to quench thirst—it only worsens the crisis,” the video declares, with English narration and Chinese subtitles. The message warns that yielding to pressure only invites further mistreatment and firmly states: “China won’t kneel down.”
The video presents a historical account of U.S. economic pressure tactics, citing past cases like Toshiba and Alstom, which were allegedly dismantled under American influence, and blames the U.S. for Japan’s prolonged economic stagnation. In contrast, China portrays itself as a stable, open economy, encouraging global investment and cooperation. “China will hold its ground, no matter the challenge,” the narration continues, framing the nation as a beacon through global uncertainty.
Though the video doesn’t mention the newly imposed 145% U.S. tariffs or China’s 125% retaliatory measures, its release coincides with a period of perceived opportunity for negotiations.
While President Trump has expressed hope that tariffs could be reduced if China makes a strong offer, Chinese officials have denied any ongoing formal negotiations.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is actively engaged in trade discussions with 17 other countries during a 90-day tariff pause.
The video closes with a rallying cry for international unity, accusing the U.S. of unreliability and overstating its global influence. “When the world stands together, the U.S. is just a small, stranded boat,” it asserts. China warns that the U.S. will continue to shift its stance and apply pressure but emphasizes that standing firm is the key to preserving justice and ending global bullying.
