Potential jurors in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial are being questioned about whether they recognize any of the 190 celebrities listed during jury selection, and whether they’ve seen the disturbing video of Combs allegedly beating his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
The jury selection process is underway in Manhattan, where Combs, 55, faces several criminal charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
The list of celebrities includes actors Michael B. Jordan, Mike Myers, and rappers Kanye West and Kid Cudi, among others. While it’s unclear why these celebrities are mentioned, some jurors were asked about their views on public figures, including Kanye West, as part of the vetting process.
Combs has been in jail since September, awaiting trial, and was seen in court on Monday in street clothes, as the jury selection process continued. Some potential jurors were dismissed based on their familiarity with the case or the video showing Combs allegedly assaulting Cassie. The trial, expected to last eight weeks, will feature an anonymous jury, and Combs could face life in prison if convicted.
The indictment against Combs alleges a history of abuse, coercion, and trafficking, including orchestrating “Freak Off” sex parties involving women and drugs. Federal investigators have raided his homes, seizing evidence related to the alleged abuse.
Despite these accusations, Combs has pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing. His case has drawn significant attention, with some suggesting that his legal troubles might also be connected to the ongoing investigation into the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur.
