Lady Gaga has issued an emotional statement following her historic concert in Rio de Janeiro, where police reportedly thwarted a planned attack targeting the event.
Posting on Instagram on May 4, Gaga reflected on the experience without directly referencing the threat. “Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show—the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil,” she wrote. Her message, filled with gratitude and encouragement, has garnered over 3.5 million likes.
According to reports, authorities prevented an alleged plot by a hate group targeting the LGBTQ community, aiming to incite violence and gain attention online. Gaga, however, focused on celebrating the power of unity and perseverance.
“Your heart shines so bright, your culture is so vibrant and special,” she wrote. “An estimated 2.5 million people came to see me sing—the biggest crowd for any woman in history.” She added a message of resilience: “If you lose your way, you can find it again by believing in yourself and working hard.”
Gaga’s team also confirmed that they were unaware of any credible threats during the concert, and had worked closely with law enforcement to ensure safety.
Lady Gaga’s May 5 Instagram story featured sweeping images of the crowd and stage, focusing on the joy of the performance rather than the foiled attack.
Ending her message with love and thanks, Gaga wrote, “Obrigada. I will never forget this moment. Paws up, little monsters. Love, Mother Monster.”
