The Trump administration announced it will offer $1,000 to immigrants living in the U.S. illegally who choose to return to their home countries voluntarily, as part of its broader push for mass deportations.
According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, the administration is also providing travel assistance, and those who use the CBP Home app to notify the government of their intent to leave will be given lower priority for detention and removal. “Self-deportation is the best, safest, and most cost-effective way to leave the United States without facing arrest,” said Secretary Kristi Noem.
This initiative is part of President Trump’s campaign focus on immigration enforcement, though the mass deportation efforts are costly and resource-heavy.
While the administration is seeking increased funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it is also encouraging illegal immigrants to self-deport.
