Renowned political economist and public affairs commentator, Professor Pat Utomi, has officially announced his complete departure from Nigerian politics.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Utomi declared he would no longer seek elective office nor accept any government appointment or contract.
“Let me be unequivocal,” he said. “I will not run for public office, I will not accept any appointment or contract from any government in Nigeria.”
The former presidential candidate stated that his focus now lies solely in advocating for the future of Nigeria’s younger generations. “My only concern now is the future of our children and grandchildren. I have lived my life without taking anything from the public purse or chasing government money,” he noted.
Utomi also rejected claims that he is maneuvering for political relevance or favors, adding, “This is to silence any talk that I’m lobbying for contracts or chasing relevance. That is not who I am.”
His statement marks a conclusive end to a decades-long career in political advocacy, public service, and nation-building.
