Hamas plans to release Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, who has been held in Gaza, as part of broader efforts to secure a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid into the territory, a senior Hamas official said.
Alexander is believed to be the last remaining American hostage in Hamas custody. His release is expected ahead of U.S. President Trump’s upcoming visit to the Middle East.
Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, currently in exile, said the release negotiations have been facilitated with the help of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. He added that the group is prepared to begin intensive talks to end the war and conduct a prisoner exchange.
