Rapper Chris Brown was arrested early Thursday morning at a luxury hotel in Manchester in connection to a bottle attack at a London nightclub. Metropolitan Police officers detained the 36-year-old American artist around 2 a.m. at The Lowry Hotel, suspecting him of inflicting grievous bodily harm on music producer Abe Diaw during an altercation at Tape nightclub in Mayfair back in February 2023.
Brown had arrived in the UK the previous day via private jet at Manchester Airport. After media inquiries alerted authorities to his presence, detectives traveled to Manchester and made the arrest. He was taken into custody and is currently being questioned at a local station.
The alleged incident occurred while Brown was touring internationally.
Diaw claims Brown attacked him without warning—striking him in the head multiple times with a bottle, followed by punches and kicks while he was on the ground. Diaw required hospital treatment and now seeks $16 million (£12 million) in damages through a civil lawsuit.
This development comes amid Brown’s plans for his Breezy Bowl XX Tour, celebrating 20 years in the music industry. The tour is scheduled to begin June 8 in Amsterdam, with UK stops including two nights in Manchester, followed by shows in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, and Glasgow. Summer Walker and Bryson Tiller are slated to join him on the U.S. and European legs, respectively.
The investigation, led by the Central West Area Command Unit, may disrupt the upcoming tour dates. Despite the legal troubles, Brown had previously expressed excitement about reconnecting with fans on Instagram, promising to give his heart and soul during performances. His 2024 tour in support of his album 11:11 grossed over $82 million and sold nearly half a million tickets.
Chris Brown is also known for his high-profile friendships with celebrities like Tommy Fury and UFC star Conor McGregor, having been seen partying with both in Dubai.
