Vietnamese authorities have arrested beauty queen and social media influencer Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien for allegedly committing consumer fraud after promoting a counterfeit dietary supplement.
Nguyen, who gained fame after winning Miss Grand International in 2021, had endorsed Kera Supergreens Gummies, claiming they were high in fibre. However, lab tests revealed each gummy contained only 16mg of fibre—far less than the 200mg advertised.
The gummies were part of a business venture involving Nguyen and fellow influencers Pham Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc.
The public backlash intensified after it was discovered the gummies used low-fibre ingredients and failed to disclose important information on the packaging, including high levels of sorbitol, a common laxative component.
The three influencers were fined in March and publicly apologized.
In April, Pham, Hang Du Muc, and company officials were arrested for allegedly producing fake goods and defrauding consumers. On Monday, Nguyen was also detained on similar charges. Authorities report that over 100,000 boxes were sold before the scandal came to light. Prior to the controversy, Nguyen was a prominent figure in Vietnam, frequently appearing on television and receiving government recognition.
