A new documentary titled TRAPPED: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams? premiered on May 19 on the ID Channel, exploring Wendy Williams’ struggle with alcoholism and her life under guardianship.
The former talk show host, 60, currently lives on a secured floor of a New York assisted living facility.
Investigative journalist Diane Dimond revealed that Wendy was previously on the third floor, where she had access to elevators and hallways. On her birthday, Williams reportedly took the elevator to the rooftop bar, where she drank multiple alcoholic beverages, admitting to a relapse. Following this, she was moved to a more restrictive memory care unit on the fifth floor, where she is confined unless her guardian grants permission to leave.
Williams, placed under guardianship in 2022 and diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023, has denied ongoing substance issues.
In a March interview on The View, she claimed to be sober and maintaining a healthy relationship with alcohol. Some doctors, however, suggest her symptoms might stem from alcohol-induced dementia rather than FTD.
Since speaking publicly about her conservatorship and health, her guardian requested a new comprehensive neurological and psychological evaluation. Despite the court ordering testing in March, Williams reportedly declined to participate, though she denied this claim and said she was open to evaluations but couldn’t discuss it further at the time.
