Two employees of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., were fatally shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum, in what Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon condemned as a “depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism.” According to four senior law enforcement officials cited by NBC News, a man opened fire on a male and female victim. Witnesses said the suspect shouted “Free Palestine” as he was taken into custody. His identity has not been publicly disclosed.
The shooting occurred during an event at the museum, Danon noted on X, emphasizing that “harming the Jewish community is crossing a red line.” U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was present at the scene, expressed condolences to the victims, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed on X to bring the attacker to justice.
The incident took place near 3rd and F Streets NW, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed. The Capital Jewish Museum, located near the FBI’s Washington Field Office, focuses on the local Jewish experience. Footage from NBC Washington showed a large law enforcement response, including U.S. Capitol Police.
