President Trump said Friday that he would be open to reviewing the possibility of pardoning Sean “Diddy” Combs if the rapper is convicted in his ongoing federal trial involving sex trafficking and racketeering charges. “I’d look at what’s happening. I haven’t followed it closely,” Trump remarked when asked about the potential pardon. He said he hasn’t spoken to Combs “in years” and noted that no one has requested a pardon on his behalf.
“He used to really like me, but I think that changed once I entered politics. I’ve read some not-so-nice comments from him lately,” Trump added. Despite this, he emphasized that personal opinions wouldn’t influence his decision: “If I believe someone was treated unfairly, whether they like me or not wouldn’t matter.”
It was noted that Trump once called Combs a “good friend” during an episode of The Apprentice. Combs has pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges, which include leading a criminal network involving sex trafficking, kidnapping, and bribery. The topic of a potential pardon gained attention after Suge Knight, former Death Row Records CEO, suggested Trump might intervene.
Trump has already issued numerous pardons during the early months of his second term, including high-profile ones like Todd and Julie Chrisley, and the majority of Jan. 6 defendants.
