Snoop Dogg, who has recently softened his stance on Donald Trump, is showing support for the president following his pardon of NBA YoungBoy and commutation of Chicago gang leader Larry Hoover’s sentence. The Louisiana rapper, NBA YoungBoy, was recently cleared of federal fraud charges, while Trump reduced Hoover’s federal sentence, which originally included six life terms. Although Hoover’s future remains uncertain, Snoop is encouraging both men to make positive changes.
In an interview with TMZ Hip-Hop, Snoop expressed his close connection to NBA YoungBoy, calling him family and emphasizing the responsibility YoungBoy has as a role model for many young fans. “He has the chance to set an example for those who look up to him,” Snoop said.
Regarding Hoover, Snoop praised Trump’s commutation, calling it a hopeful step. He offered his support to Hoover in efforts to reduce violence in Chicago, acknowledging Hoover’s influence on gang culture there. Snoop said he is committed to helping bring peace and end gang violence locally and worldwide.
Though Snoop spoke as if Hoover is free, he remains imprisoned on a lengthy state sentence related to a 1973 murder, which must be addressed by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
Hoover has been held in a maximum-security Colorado prison since 1997 and is known for founding the still-active Gangster Disciples nearly five decades ago.
