Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Russia is open to mediating a peace agreement between Donald Trump and Elon Musk as their public feud escalates. Medvedev, now deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, posted on X, jokingly offering to broker a truce “for a reasonable fee” and even proposed accepting Starlink shares as payment. “Don’t fight, guys,” he added, along with a screaming emoji. Musk replied with a laughing emoji.
Other Russian officials also chimed in, with one suggesting the country would be willing to offer Musk political asylum if tensions worsen.
Dmitry Novikov of Russia’s State Duma said Musk likely doesn’t need asylum, “but if he did, Russia could certainly provide it.”
The fallout between Musk and Trump follows Musk’s public criticism of Trump’s touted budget bill — a “big, beautiful bill” that Trump claims would deliver record expense cuts and major tax reductions. Trump implied Musk turned on him because the bill eliminates electric vehicle incentives, a move that negatively impacted Tesla stock.
In response, Musk posted that he played a key role in Trump’s political survival, claiming that without his influence, Republicans would have lost control of Congress. “Such ingratitude,” he wrote.
