Nationwide protests are being organized for June 28 — Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s birthday — by the activist group Tesla Takedown.
Branded as the “Musk Must Fall” movement, the protests will take place in at least 15 U.S. states and internationally in the U.K., aiming to spotlight Musk’s lingering political influence, despite no longer holding a government role.
Though Musk stepped down from his position in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), critics say his legacy continues to shape national policy through mass layoffs, significant government contracts, and his control of X (formerly Twitter), which gives him enormous sway over political discourse.
Tesla Takedown calls the coordinated protests a “global party with one powerful message: Musk Must Fall.”
Events are scheduled across both Democratic and Republican-led states, including Texas, Missouri, Georgia, and Ohio. Protesters argue Musk remains deeply connected to the Trump administration’s ideology, citing his financial power, amplification of conspiracies, and ongoing feud with President Trump. Their statement claims, “Elon is still tied to the Trump regime, still warping democracy with his wealth.”
Despite some political strategists suggesting Democrats court Musk’s influence, public polls show him to be broadly unpopular. Tensions have also escalated recently between Musk and Trump, with Musk accusing Trump of needing his support to win re-election, and Trump threatening to cut off federal funding to Musk-linked ventures like SpaceX and Starlink.
Tesla Takedown stresses that its protests are peaceful and unrelated to vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles or showrooms — acts the Trump administration has called “domestic terrorism.” The FBI has launched a task force in response to those incidents and maintains its commitment to protecting the public from all forms of crime and extremism.
Organizers reaffirm that June 28 will serve both as a protest and a moment of reflection for their movement. Additional anti-Trump protests are also scheduled for June 14, Trump’s birthday.
