Elon Musk is making a desperate attempt to regain favor with Donald Trump by reposting the president’s provocative social media messages about the protests in Los Angeles.
Musk seems keen to move past their recent public fallout, which happened after Trump warned him of “serious consequences” if he backed Democratic candidates.
As a gesture of reconciliation, Musk shared on X a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social post claiming that L.A. has been “invaded and occupied by illegal aliens and criminals” amid protests and riots sparked by federal immigration raids. The original post was shared by Vice President JD Vance, who called for “decisive leadership” in L.A. and said Trump would not “tolerate rioting and violence.” Musk reshared Vance’s message with two American flag emojis. Shortly after, Musk also reposted another Trump message criticizing California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of doing a “horrible job” handling what Trump described as “troublemakers and insurrectionists.” For months, Musk was seen as a key influence in Trump’s circle, especially while promoting cost-cutting through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Many had predicted the unlikely alliance between Musk and Trump—both known for their strong personalities—would eventually collapse.
