A Democratic senator representing Woodbury, Minnesota, has been arrested for first-degree burglary in Becker County.
State Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) was taken into custody and booked at the Becker County Jail early Monday morning.
According to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd, officers responded to a homeowner’s report of a burglary around 4:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Mitchell inside the residence.
As of Monday afternoon, Mitchell remained in custody.
Chief Todd stated that the police department has submitted its findings to the Becker County Attorney, who will determine the charges.
Elected in 2022, Mitchell is currently serving her first term as a DFL state senator and holds the position of vice chair of the State and Local Government and Veterans Committee.
Prior to her political career, Mitchell worked as a television meteorologist in the Twin Cities and holds the rank of lieutenant commander in the Air National Guard.
