Nigerian singer-songwriter turned actress Tiwatope Savage, known as Tiwa Savage, has unveiled the official trailer for her debut film “Water and Garri.” Directed by Meji Alabi and produced by Unbound Studio and JM Films, the movie is set to premiere on Prime Video on Friday, May 10, 2024.
This marks Tiwa’s first venture into the Nigerian film industry, with filming taking place in Cape Coast, Ghana.
In “Water and Garri,” Tiwa stars as Aisha, a driven fashion designer returning to her hometown following a family tragedy after years abroad in the United States.
However, her homecoming reveals a community grappling with escalating violence and unrest. Joining her in the cast are Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, and Andrew Bunting.
Tiwa also serves as the film’s executive producer, composing and performing the original soundtrack. Notably, in 2021, she released a five-track EP titled “Water & Garri,” which shares the same title as her debut movie project.
Describing the film, Tiwa remarked, “It’s a story about love and female empowerment,” encapsulating the themes explored in “Water and Garri.”
