A manhunt was launched in France following a violent incident where two prison officers lost their lives and three others sustained injuries during an attack on a van transporting a convict.
The assailants, armed with heavy weapons, targeted the convoy as it moved the prisoner from a courthouse to a prison in Rouen.
The attackers rammed vehicles into the convoy at a highway toll, allowing the prisoner, identified as Mohamed Amra, to escape amidst the chaos.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin mobilized hundreds of police officers and gendarmes to track down the perpetrators.
French President Emmanuel Macron assured that all efforts were being made to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The suspect, known as “The Fly,” is also linked to an alleged kidnapping and a separate homicide case in Marseille.
The attack is being investigated as likely organized crime, according to public prosecutor Laure Beccuau.
The scene of the ambush displayed a significant police presence and forensic activity around the vehicles involved.
