Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has decided to cancel his upcoming foreign trips amidst Russia’s continued advances into Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region.
The presidential spokesperson, Sergii Nykyforov, announced on Wednesday that Zelensky has instructed the postponement of all international engagements planned for the coming days, with new dates to be arranged.
Nykyforov expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s partners for their understanding during this challenging time.
The latest Russian offensive, which began last Friday, has seen significant territorial gains in the Kharkiv region, with border villages quickly falling under Russian control and intense shelling focused on the city of Vovchansk, located just miles away from Russian territory recognized internationally.
Local reports indicate that Russian forces are establishing positions within Vovchansk.
Ukraine’s military confirmed late Tuesday that they withdrew soldiers from certain areas of Vovchansk and another village in Kharkiv to safeguard their fighters’ lives.
