A United Airlines flight aborted its takeoff from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport after an engine caught fire, causing a temporary halt to arrivals during the busy Memorial Day travel period.
The incident involved United Flight 2091, an Airbus A320, which was preparing for takeoff around 2 p.m. when the engine ignited, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The flight was destined for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington.
An airport spokesperson stated that the airplane encountered an “emergency situation” during departure, which was resolved “safely.”
The FAA also reported that it had stopped arrivals into the airport.
